Beci has updated her PDF on my home site and there’s lots of gorgeous never-before-seen work on there. Here is a little sample if you’re super impatient and don’t want to wait for the download. And here’s a link to the PDF.

Gen just shot this amazing story in Tasmania for Monocle. It was a beautiful three day shoot. Such an incredible opportunity to get to know her own country. The story was really detailed. I think five pages from memory. She had such a great experience and reckons that Tassie kids are the collest kids in the world!
See shocking scans to follow. Sorry Gen!

Here’s Chris’s latest story from Monster Children. It’s an Autumn story featuring all those between seasons pieces that seem to do just nicely for a Sydney Winter. The styling is by Lucy Goodwin, and the hair and make up by Nadine Monley at Names.

I’m a bit of a 50s pinup fan myself. I’ve got the Bernard of Hollywood instructional photography book for amateur pinup photographers. I just love the innocence and the confidence of those old pictures and that whole genre. Those of you who know Chris’s work might have seen a bit of a theme running through. He has quite a few of these gorgeous, healthy, strong, nymphettes with a come-hither-if-you-dare look about them in his folio and I really think it’s a modern day take on the old genre. And as they appear in Monster Children, the interviews are really genuine yet still cheeky, rather than the usual ‘what’s your favourite pickup line’ drivel that appears in norg-mags like Ralph. They’re pinups with a brain.

My friend down here in the Highlands, Tamara, has finally got herself an online presence. Til now, she has been Sydney’s best kept secret. Most stylists worth their salt will know of her, but I just thought I would blog a bit about her as she is actually an amazing production resource. Tamara makes things. I guess the kind of things that you might brief her to make would be custom stitchwork for shoots, props, especially soft props, custom homewares, and basically anything crafty. She’s working on a top secret project with Julian at the moment. Let’s just say that what she’s doing for him is in theory impossible. But they have photographic proof that Tamara can make anything.
Here’s Tamara’s bio:
After starting out as a record store signwriter in 1989, Tamara Maynes moved into fashion merchandising quickly followed by the launch of her five year long fashion label 50ft Queenie whose claim to fame was fan British songstress Roisin Murphy.
After a collaboration designing and producing fashion accessories was picked up by French label Kookai in Australia, Tamara was asked to develop accessories and personals for interior store Empire Homewares. Landing in Sydney around this time was the famed Versace Exhibition for which Tamara was invited to design and produce a collection of accessories and soft furnishings. This began a love affair with interiors that is currently predominant in her work.
The launch of a self labelled, limited edition homewares and personals collection onto the Australian and New Zealand boutique wholesale market gained much success which was followed by the invitation to undertake product design and development for Orson & Blake.
Currently, Tamara is also a specialised maker focusing on fabric and crafts and has been commissioned by Mokum Textiles, and Inside Out Magazine to bring creative concepts to life in the form of props and craftwork illustration.
In 2009 Tamara also plans to make her limited edition collectables available online, expand her craftwork illustration and design commission service, and pursue a design book collaboration of the crafty kind.
Tamara lives in and runs her studio Bespoke Workshop from the beautiful Southern Highlands of New South Wales just a hop, skip and jump from her predominantly Sydney based clients.

When Julian and I first moved back to Australia we had a competition between us to see who would get into the S section of the Herald social pages. I won of course within about six weeks of arriving. Not to be outdone, Julian was interviewed on the NBC New York Today show last night. They sent a car down to Exeter to collect him. It’s all a bit surreal to think of people in NY having a chuckle at the ponies while eating their breakfast. Neither of us are quite sure how any of this happened.

My friend Matt in London is writing a kids show and asked me about illustrators who do character design. She sent me a bunch of stuff to send him and half of it I had never seen before.
I think it’s really gorgeous and she’s already been given a really nice commission along these lines that will have to remain a secret for now. I hope you like these little fellas! Happy Easter to all!

In response to the media craziness, we have built a print sales site at the wonderful BigCartel.com
Julian is adding new prints over the next few days.

Those of you who are up at sparrow’s fart might have seen Julian’s ponies on the Today show on Channel 9 (and another show on Channel 7 that we also can’t watch) this morning. We got a 645am phone call to tell us but we don’t get any telly channels down here in the sticks. They were also featured on the front page of the Daily Mail’s website right up there with a story about Jack Tweed’s memory box he is making for Jade Goody before his sentencing and the story about the fat X-Factor singer who turned down a job on live radio.
And click here to go straight to the article. Dearie dearie me.
Click here and scroll down to see a really weird montage of the ponies.
(Big thanks to Micah Walker. You know what for.)
Update: 7pm Friday. We have since heard of sightings in the UK Mirror, the UK Telegraph, and the Metro, see below – which has about a billion tube readers a day! Channel 5 have run a piece on the series, and someone even heard a RADIO presenter saying “Have you seen those horse images? They’ve made me really happy!”)

I was a North West London dweller while I lived there, so forgive me but I don’t know which of these is Fulham Broadway and which is the Custard Factory in Birmingham. Feel free to add a comment if you know. Fulham is a huge Aussie expat area so I am sure someone can set me straight. Julian flew to London to shoot the skyline for this campaign featuring Steve Carell, Sarah Silverman, and Kenny. I think after the Capital Radio job, Julian is the official London skyline photographer. Karmarama were really happy with the campaign. Julian gets really appreciative emails from the team almost every other week. Must be those English manners.
