In a gratuitously creative exercise, Kate Banazi has transformed some of Chris Searl’s back archive. Kate is a brilliant Jacky Winter artist who assisted the legendary Kate Gibb on her Dries Van Noten work in London. She’s really infused the shots with a completely different kind of energy. It’s almost like Chris’s sublime work has been given a Berocca. We’re really pleased to take credit for hooking these two up. The trend to combine creative forces like this has been a long time coming in Australia but we are hoping to see more of it and hopefully facilitate it for our guys.
You know those jobs that look really simple? The ones that weren’t and you just WISH you had a stop frame of the whole thing to prove to people how incredible you are for pulling something off? Well, we want to say a big ole thanks to Nicole and Miles at TBWA for having the foresight to ask Julian to make a stop frame of the Visa ‘Go’ build. It’s really made us debate within the agency whether we should do this for all our shoots. A huge thanks to tin&ed and my professional partner and personal hero, Jeremy from Jacky Winter for all the late nights and patience and diplomacy.
After a month away in UK shooting snow angels having sex, Julian will be back on Monday. And with his books completely up to date, we are ready to rock and roll.
Catch Gen Kay in this months Lensflair article in CREATIVE magazine. She has an eye for the next big thing we reckon. She has been shooting man of the moment, Jethro, since he was but a boy. Watch this space as we will be posting her new Jethro film when The Ones 2 Watch send it a little bit viral.
We are very excited to announce that after months of planning and legwork, the Rebecca Wolkenstein Agency has gone on tour.
A selection of our favourite advertising agencies will hold a boutique exhibition of artists works over the coming months.
Publicis Mojo was bumped in today. You can see from the camPhone images that it’s a pretty amazing mix of media. Andrew is presenting a pencil print on canvas, Murray’s Academy Award nominated film, SALT, is on a loop on a big screen, Gen has presented the most divine film stills, and Beci has submitted a giant laser cut tree!
Next round will see Jonathan Zawada’s screen printed mirrors, Chris’s now not-so-secret Where The Wild Things Are on-set shots, and Julian’s headspinning wallpaper.
The show will then head to DDB and follow to Saatchi & Saatch, Lowe, Ogilvy, Droga 5 and more in the new year.
Some of the works will be for sale, please make contact with lucy@rebeccawolkenstein.com
Post script by Bec: This is a simple idea, but I want the world (or just my blog readers) to know how much behind the scenes work went into this by Cam and Lucy and I want to say a massive public thank you to my amazing team and artists for delivering as usual.
Chris Searl is to be one of the five judges in this years Canon EOS Photo 5 awards.
The site explains the project best:
These five photography briefs are what EOS Photo5 is all about. Inside the official box each year are items which represent 5 seperate photographic briefs. The challenge is to answer the 5 briefs with the most creative and imaginative images you can think of. The past two years of EOS Photo5 have produced some amazing shots, and we are expecting even bigger things from the World of EOS community this year, check out the past winners here.
For 2009, we’ve made the briefs even more challenging to test your photography skills not just your creativity. Each brief has also been assigned a professional judge to provide tips along the way and choose the final ten shots before we open the competition up to a public vote to choose the winners. New to EOS Photo5 this year is the Open Brief* – Practically Black. This is the first time we have one brief which everyone can enter, even if you missed out on one of the limited edition EOS Photo5 boxes.
All over the world, creatives have been commissioned with a global brief to create the word ‘go.’ in a variety of different forms, internally coined ‘gollages’ by TBWA. For this execution for Visa Debit, tin&ed were asked to bring their model making skills to build this massive sculpture out of new and recycled computer parts using a pretty clever trick of perspective with ‘Go’ starting in the air on a rig, and ending on the floor of the space. The retouched final art shown above, masterfully shot by Julian, took three days to build and about 30 seconds to shoot, lit by simple coloured fluro tubes only.
I recently discovered WIRED while at the airport on my way to London. It must be said that aside from Monocle (obv) this is the most finely crafted and informative magazine I have read in quite some time. The art direction is incredible so it’s no surprise that Neil recently did a 10 page feature for WIRED in Kenya.
Countries on Africa´s East coast today rely solely on satellites for their internet connection. These are slow and expensive compared with the sub sea cables that feed the rest of the world with a www connection. But several rival organisations are racing to lay high-speed cables into Kenya, Malawi and other countries. Regardless of who gets there first, everyone from distant farmers and businesses to slum dwellers trying to uplift themselves from poverty will win. However, getting there requires specialised cable-laying ships and their crews to dodge everything from Somalian pirates to cable-eating sharks in order to bring a 10,000km cable, only as thick as a sailor´s thumb, safely up onto land. It’s not your usual ‘latest piece of fluff iPhone app’ reporting. It’s very much about how the internet is engaging us in a real sense and having a tangible impact on existence. Deep. Beci has just done the cutest colab with Kit Cosmetics. She’s been a big fan of their packaging for a while so she was thrilled to be approached to embark on a joint promo, including windows, a Beci Orpin/Kit tote, a limited edition cosmetics bag, and instore posters and banners. Love the palette!
