As a lot of you know, I have reduced my roster this year. It’s leaner, stronger and more in line with my values as a vicarious creative than ever before. I’m now able to do some things that I have wanted to for a while including expanding my agency offering by bringing contemporary art photography into the commercial space.
In the next few weeks I am going to be introducing Matthew Sleeth to a few of you in Sydney. In my opinion Matthew is Australia’s answer to Richard Prince, and if by now you don’t know what I am talking about then you really need to meet him. He gives an unpretentious insight into the world of art and he is looking forward to expanding his practice by learning about the strange world of advertising photography. It’s very exciting for me to have Matthew on loan from the art world and I am proud to be able to offer him to all the brilliant creative minds we’ve worked with so far.
There was an article about me and my agency peeps (and various other things) in Daily Imprint today. Daily Imprint is Natalie from Real Living’s blog and it’s great. She’s definitely cherry picking the best stuff locally and worldwide and creating original content rather than blogging the blogs. Thanks Natalie! Excuse my outta control desktop on my screengrab. Click here for the full interview.
Julian’s Lynx ‘Snow’ campaign with BBH London has been selected to be featured in the 2010 Creative Review Annual. Anyone who knows their butt from their boob will know that this is massive news. We’re very proud of him.
This year I was roving reporter for Australian INfront at Semi Permanent 2010. It was my first sp and I tweeted the event from @aust_infront’s account. You can see my roundup on the INfront site, but I really wanted to share a film by the last speaker, David Michod. I personally think his talk was the least glamourous but most inspiring. The crux of what he had to share was the success happens incrementally, while you’re going merrily along living your life. There are no epiphanies, no driving passions, just a fear of public embarrassment which makes us want to do good work. Crossbow was the short which changed things for David. I hope you like it.
Pete Daly recently joined the agency and we are happy to report he is already getting exciting work enquiries for 2010. Check out his new downloadable folio.
by nominating someone good. Needless to say, I am talking about my gang here. To show your support in a practical way and help the agency in its quest for world domination, click here. And remember, the categories are Julian and Chris Mollison = Advertising, Chris Searl = documentary, fashion, editorial and portraiture, Rich = fashion and editorial, Pete = fashion and editorial, and Gen = fashion and editorial.
Let’s shake up the pro-sumer mag industry this year!
We just got our new cards and we’ve posted most of them out. We’ve done boy sets and girl sets as some of the cards look a bit more like pin ups than comp cards. They always seem to make it onto the pin boards so this time I have put our logo on the front instead of back. Here’s Lucy working like a slave, stuffing envelopes. (This is to prove to our artists how hard we work for them. Please make a note when visiting Mecca to buy your tireless agents Chrissie presents.)
Beci and Jonathan are exhibiting with our other favourite person, Jeremy on the 27th November. It’s to raise money for Youth with Cancer. Is there a worthier cause? There are lots of familiar names up there, but we are proud to say that the three in the RW family are most definitely the best ones. (You should be able to read the venue, times, and dates on the flyer which is stunning by the way.)
It’s so hard finding the right artists these days. It takes so much patience and searching, and so much delicacy. The right balance has to be found, niches have to be filled, gut instinct has to be allowed to rule. This is why I am thrilled to announce that Richard Freeman has come on board. He comes with zero ego, Kiwi humility, and an absolute passion for light and beauty without any of the nonsense. He has only been shooting for himself for three years and has already scored a Vogue cover. His page on the site is going up in the next week or so, so keep an eye out for it. If you can’t wait til then, click here to see more of his work and partake in some pure escapism.
We’re so excited to have found someone locally who has the energy to make product photography thrilling! His name is Pete Daly and he is on the right side of 30, completely guileless, free of cynicism and has boundless youthful creative abandon! He is also complicit in our new marketing strategy of using T&A to promote the artists whenever such shots are available. It’s just easier that way.
