Beci Orpin and all her enterprises have recently been featured in Inside Out. She’s living the dream as far as I’m concerned. Being shot looking incredibly THIN and GORGEOUS, in her beautiful home, surrounded by er beautiful things, talking about all the beautiful products she makes for the world to enjoy. From her kids range Tiny Mammoth, stocked in Colette no less, to her new range of homewares. If I wasn’t so proud I would be dead jealous.

Just a quick post to announce what many of you will already know. Jeremy at Jacky Winter and I are co-repping Beci and Jonathan. That means that I will still be representing them but we will have the advantage of all of Jeremy’s amazing resources like Basecamp to help facilitate our work. So if you’re a fan, call either one of us – practically speaking, if you’re in Sydney, call me, and if you’re a Melbourne client, call Jeremy. But if you like talking to me, call me, and if you like talking to Jeremy, call Jeremy.

I have a double barreled confession to make. My kids eat McDonalds. And the worst part is..they don’t eat the healthy options. I think those healthy options might be for display purposes only. Like the little bits of plastic sushi they have in the window of Japanese restaurants. Does anyone’s kids eat wraps and bits of fruit at McDonald’s? I didn’t think so. Ok so back to Gen. I’ll start at the beginning.
Ages ago, Gen shot this amazing little story for Fabio Ongarato/Country Road. It was such an incredible little concept and though Country Road never went ahead with using the shots, I just knew that some day we would get work out of this story. The concept was to show kids doing stuff without showing their face. They’re incredibly spontaneous and needless to say DDB loved them. I have included them here as they’re so worth seeing and it might give an insight into how we get work for our artists. The McDonald’s work, which is out today, is underneath. Gen shot the food too.

And here is the resulting McDonald’s shoot.

Huge thanks to Tyke Rashid (Beci’s very talented and artistic son who did the drawing!)

My site recently received props from the man I believe to be the foremost design commentator in this country. He recently wrote a State-of Design article that received lots of Twitter attention around the world. Michael write a little piece about the agency which you can see here: http://linefeed.presspublish.info/2692 and a great article about Beci which you can see here http://linefeed.presspublish.info/2690
The linefeed site design is unpretentious even taking unpretentiousness to the extreme of not being ironically minimal in its design. Wow, that’s a complicated statement but it’s the best way I can describe my observation. If you care about design, check it out. It’s quite all-encompassing and caters to the pedestrian use of design, including user experience of city design, as well as speaking to the design nerd.

Beci did this gorgeous ident for me a while back and now Caravan is live, I can show it. The brief was for it to have a gypsy feel. The site was a project Damien and I did together and it’s a sublet and housing swap resource for creatives only. Us traveling Wolkensteins could have really used a resource like this over the past few years, so I decided to build it myself. To see the ident in context (or why don’t you just go nuts and place a free listing?) click here.

Beci completed this great little campaign for Simply Energy. The concept, if you don’t get it from the pictures – which you should! – is ‘Reduce the Badness’. Eliminate all the horrid things in your life – witches, spilt wine, monsters, all of it! Including massive energy bills. It’s super cute and I LOVE the palette. Big hats off to the guys at BBDO for taking a risk with colour! It should read ‘Reduce the Blandness’. Should be more of it. Click the images to see a larger version.

I love it when an agency wants to put the special little touches onto everything that goes out the door. Beci did these icons for Visa for their website and DM. It’s such a small thing but it says so much. TBWA commissioned them and it was really nice to be involved with an agency who takes pride in craft. Thanks Miles!
