You know it’s a great interview when it reveals stuff you didn’t know about your own artist, right? As usual Lucy has been completely insightful. I encourage all my readers to subscribe to Design Files RSS Feed . Lucy does all this work OUTSIDE her day job. Incredible and really essential if you want to know what’s going on in design in Australia.
Well it’s a proud day. Three of my artists have made it to the Creative Sydney Top 100 list. Andrew and Daniel from Collider, Annie, Jonathan and Shane were listed for Tru$t Fun! and Monster Children (Chris) also made the list. There were some really cool characters listed but here are some of the more householdy names who made the list: Margaret Pommeranz, Glue Society, Vince Frost, The Chaser, and Sass&Bide. The list is actually a really good indicator of what’s coming out of Sydney. You can see the whole list with links here.
I love it when an agency wants to put the special little touches onto everything that goes out the door. Beci did these icons for Visa for their website and DM. It’s such a small thing but it says so much. TBWA commissioned them and it was really nice to be involved with an agency who takes pride in craft. Thanks Miles!
Monster Children Gallery is hosting a show including the work of Beci Orpin and Jonathan Zawada. It’s works on glass for Asahi. I’ll update the post after opening night with the images of Beci and Jonathan’s work, but hopefully you can make it along. The address and map are at the gallery link above.
There’s still time to see Jonathan’s Tru$t Fun! show at Monster Children gallery. It’s on til the 9th of May. It’s called Glory Holes and I would write more but I can’t access the spiel on the Monster Children site as it seems the Monster Children site has been censored!!! Welcome to China. Take my word for it and just go and see it.
Beci has updated her PDF on my home site and there’s lots of gorgeous never-before-seen work on there. Here is a little sample if you’re super impatient and don’t want to wait for the download. And here’s a link to the PDF.
My friend Matt in London is writing a kids show and asked me about illustrators who do character design. She sent me a bunch of stuff to send him and half of it I had never seen before.
I think it’s really gorgeous and she’s already been given a really nice commission along these lines that will have to remain a secret for now. I hope you like these little fellas! Happy Easter to all!
Psychedelic artists are pretty thin on the ground in Sydney. Luckily though when Ogilvy had a mad psychedelic 60s brief, they knew where to find Jonathan Zawada. Here’s the first of two pieces by Jonathan. Fanta wanted to reference the past with 60s artwork for their new Fanta campaign, promoting the fact that (I think..!) it has no artificial colours or flavours. I’d better watch what I say, huh, or I will have to publish corrective advertising.
The Fashion Loves Art auction on eBay has begun. Click here to score an amazing piece by Tru$t Fun!, Beci, Greedy Hen, Yasmin Sewell, Mugen, David Band, Anne Zahalka, the list goes on! The bidding on some of them is starting at 99c. Someone ban me from Paypal please!
Above are Beci and Jonathan’s and Shane’s (Tru$t Fun!) works.
Ok so I said I wouldn’t tell anyone about Beci’s site because she is making cards especially for the launch, but I can’t keep it to myself any longer. I did try. And it’s a beautiful afternoon for wasting time on the internet.
