Gen Kay for Ginza, Japan’s style bible

December 22nd, 2009 § 0

Does bible have a capital B?  Anyhoo, here is Gen’s latest story for Ginza.  It was shot on film and it’s a story about this season’s fashion trends and what the popular stylists, models and “it” girls wore to the fashion shows.ginza2010

Pete Daly’s Expensive Space-junk

November 17th, 2009 § 0

Pete shot this incredibly highly produced story for Grazia, out this week.  It’s a real moment of pride for us as it’s a rare thing indeed for a fashion glossy to feature a four page main fashion still life shoot.  Lots of prep went into it and we’re extra thrilled that these shots were 99.9% IN CAMERA.  We’re pushing for a backwards trend if you like, back to real photography, set builds, collaborations and grunt work on set rather than in the digital darkroom, and Pete is leading the charge.

Let’s get physical. Richard for Grazia

November 13th, 2009 § 0

Rich has unleashed his inner Nick Knight in this incredible sportswear story for Grazia, out this week.  If you buy the mag, you will only see the sharp shots.  If you’re lucky enough to be visiting the RW news site (which you obviously are), you will see these out-takes which are so commercially marketable and versatile that they’re like a gift from Richard to us.  He is always experimenting, pushing, adding and the great thing is that the resulting work feels new but it’s far from challenging to sell.

Lisa Mitchell shot by Richard – those freckles!

November 5th, 2009 § 0

Richard shot Lisa Mitchell for Vogue.  She looks more like a model than a singer.  He said she was completely intoxicating and totally knew how to work the camera.  When we look at this shot words like twinkling and sparkling float into our minds.  We live in a bit of a cultural cave in the Wolkenstein/Maud office, but this has made us want to get onto iTunes and have a listen to the source of all that twinkling.

Richard Freeman: Polished fashion photographer and all round nice guy.

It’s so hard finding the right artists these days.  It takes so much patience and searching, and so much delicacy.  The right balance has to be found, niches have to be filled, gut instinct has to be allowed to rule.  This is why I am thrilled to announce that Richard Freeman has come on board.  He comes with zero ego, Kiwi humility, and an absolute passion for light and beauty without any of the nonsense.  He has only been shooting for himself for three years and has already scored a Vogue cover.  His page on the site is going up in the next week or so, so keep an eye out for it.  If you can’t wait til then, click here to see more of his work and partake in some pure escapism.

Where Aren’t the Wild Things?

November 2nd, 2009 § 0

Harper’s BAZAAR recently commissioned Chris to shoot a scantily clad girl in the freezing Southern Highlands in a sweet little pastiche of his stills taken on Spike Jonze’s set three years ago.  Mark Vassallo even had a fierce little Max hat commissioned for the shoot and a DIY gold crown.  The incredible Cameron provided production support for which we all say thank you.  The shots are really special.  We hope you like them.
