I recently discovered WIRED while at the airport on my way to London. It must be said that aside from Monocle (obv) this is the most finely crafted and informative magazine I have read in quite some time. The art direction is incredible so it’s no surprise that Neil recently did a 10 page feature for WIRED in Kenya.
Countries on Africa´s East coast today rely solely on satellites for their internet connection. These are slow and expensive compared with the sub sea cables that feed the rest of the world with a www connection. But several rival organisations are racing to lay high-speed cables into Kenya, Malawi and other countries. Regardless of who gets there first, everyone from distant farmers and businesses to slum dwellers trying to uplift themselves from poverty will win. However, getting there requires specialised cable-laying ships and their crews to dodge everything from Somalian pirates to cable-eating sharks in order to bring a 10,000km cable, only as thick as a sailor´s thumb, safely up onto land. It’s not your usual ‘latest piece of fluff iPhone app’ reporting. It’s very much about how the internet is engaging us in a real sense and having a tangible impact on existence. Deep. Beci Orpin and all her enterprises have recently been featured in Inside Out. She’s living the dream as far as I’m concerned. Being shot looking incredibly THIN and GORGEOUS, in her beautiful home, surrounded by er beautiful things, talking about all the beautiful products she makes for the world to enjoy. From her kids range Tiny Mammoth, stocked in Colette no less, to her new range of homewares. If I wasn’t so proud I would be dead jealous.

Lucy here again.
Gen’s great pic of the wizarding triumph Mr Danial Radcliffe was in The Guardian magazine on 4th July 2009. It was going to run as a cover but got booted last minute with the news of MJ’s passing.
This shot was taken under the Westgate Bridge in Melbourne, 100% natural light on 35 mm and Gen even had the luxury of bodyguards on hand.

I have two really expensive silk scarves. One is Matthew Williamson and the other is Alexander McQueen. I have been known to team them with $40 American Apparel wife beaters, and cheap as chips Zara basics and people think I am minted. It’s true. Scarves are a much better ‘investment’ piece than bags or shoes. And the other best thing about scarves is that they don’t date. Go look for an Hermes scarf on eBay and tell me if you can find one for under $200 even at 30 years old. The prints become an icon of the time rather than a nasty reminder of a trend. Tru$t Fun’s digitally printed fractal scarves are available here . The site has been redesigned. Check out Fashematics (which the mainstream mags seem to so love ripping off at the moment). And buy a scarf. Grazia Magazine and RUSSH magazine think it’s a great idea. Grazia ran two bits of editorial (Mark Vassallo knows a good thing when he sees it) and RUSSH has a DPS. Lyn and Tony shot the scarves and the shots are nothing short of incredible.
