Semi Permanent 2010

March 25th, 2010 § 1

This year I was roving reporter for Australian INfront at Semi Permanent 2010. It was my first sp and I tweeted the event from @aust_infront’s account.  You can see my roundup on the INfront site, but I really wanted to share a film by the last speaker, David Michod.  I personally think his talk was the least glamourous but most inspiring.  The crux of what he had to share was the success happens incrementally, while you’re going merrily along living your life.  There are no epiphanies, no driving passions, just a fear of public embarrassment which makes us want to do good work.  Crossbow was the short which changed things for David.  I hope you like it.

Julian’s Elephant for V Australia

March 25th, 2010 § 0

Julian was recently flown with his producer, Adam, to Queensland to shoot one of Australia’s only elephant actors.  He lives right near Australia Zoo.  Here are the shots.  It was Julian’s dream to photograph an elephant so big thanks to Droga 5 for making it happen.

Julian for Nova.

March 22nd, 2010 § 0

You will have seen this everywhere if you live in Sydney.  In fact I went past a billboard outside central the other day which had Chris’s Bonds work on one panel and Julian’s Nova piece on the other.  We loved this concept from Three Drunk Monkeys when we saw it and Julian (and of course Kathy McKinnon) did such a great job of realising the vision.  Thanks of course as well to Adam, the quietest, most easy going producer we have ever worked with.

Chris Searl – Tooheys New

March 15th, 2010 § 0

Chris (very) recently shot this campaign for Tooheys New.  Anyone who has a sense of humour as stupid and inane as we do with recognise that they’re in the tradition of LOL Graphs. But this one involved dragging a life sized column graph made of set-build and beer.  This shot was at Palmy.

Chris is the only person EVER to have been allowed to shoot up there.  You can read the full interview about the shoot here on Pedestrian. And you can see the behind the scenes video here.

Here is a beautiful campaign by Chris for Insight.  Love the art direction and the crumpled stock effect.  (Or maybe he left it on the floor of his car.)

Collaborative Mini Show, Chris, Kate and 3 Drunk Monkeys

February 15th, 2010 § 0

We put up a mini show of a collaborative project by Chris Searl and Kate Banazi this week.  It looks amazing right adjacent to reception.  Alice (big thanks to you Alice for your patience with my lack of hands-on skills) took a pic with our little placard and I took one to show how nicely the colourways go with the 3DM logo and the furniture!

Our favourite LA collective, THIS, is showing one of Chris’s personal pieces in their inaugural show coming up.  If you’re in LA, the details are on the flyer below.  Other familar names in the show are Seonna Hong, Mike O’Mealy and the Cobrasnake.  Scroll down to see Chris’s piece.

Chris Searl for Bonds

February 5th, 2010 § 0

Recently we shot Hipster and Clothing campaigns for Bonds.  We’re now using Six Wolves for all our production and they’ve been amazing – thanks Adam and Kristen! Their blog is great.  Anyone considering a life in production should visit the site for a reality check. Production ain’t that glamorous!

Pania Rose was the female talent for the Clothing campaign.  How can you not love her?  Bonds and the Palace were thrilled with the result.  Chris’s work matched the brief perfectly with the style harking back to projects he had undertaken with Bonds via Monster Children.
